Upcoming Rec and Park Programs and City Events

50's Plus is held on the first Thursday of the month at 11:30 a.m., Ridgeland Recreational Center.  Bring a large covered dish and a friend to enjoy good food and fellowship. 

Grace Buchanan Oil Painting Workshop is scheduled for Thursday, September 9, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Ridgeland Recreational Center.  Call 601-856-6876 to register.

Exerfit Striding Class begins September 11, to be held on Saturdays at 7:30 a.m.  Call 601-856-6876 for more information.

Beginner Bridge Lessons starts on Tuesday, September 14 at the Ridgeland Recreational Center.  This 8-week course meets through November 2.  Register by calling Lynda at 601-856-6876. 

Learn Pastels with Cecilia Baker starts on Friday, September 17, 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. for beginners and on Tuesday, September 21, 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. for intermediate students. 

NFL Punt, Pass and Kick starts at 9 a.m. on September 18 at Freedom Ridge Park.

Halloween will be celebrated on Saturday, October 30 in the City of Ridgeland. 

Upcoming Community Events in Ridgeland

Ridgeland City Garden Club meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 11 a.m., Ridgeland Recreational Center.  Rob Mendrop, Horticulturist, will be the guest speaker in September.   He will share the many ways bamboo is being used and how it is grown.  If you are interested in gardening, please plan on attending on September 7. 

Rising Readers fall program begins on Tuesday, September 7 at 4:30 p.m., Ridgeland Library. 

Mother Goose on the Loose fall program begins on Wednesday, September 8 at 10:30 a.m., Ridgeland Library.

Madison County Mystery Readers will host a phone conference with James Hayman at 10:30 a.m., September 14, Ridgeland Library. 

The Historical Society of Ridgeland meets on the third Thursday of the month.  The Society will hold a 12 p.m. lunchtime meeting on September 16 at the Ridgeland Library.  For details, contact Cecil Snodgrass at 601-790-7000. 

City of Ridgeland Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours will be held at Gateway Tire and Service Center, 795 Lake Harbour Drive, on September 16 from 5 to 7 p.m.  For more information about Chamber events, visit www.ridgelandchamber.com

Ridgeland Rendezvous is held the third Thursday of the month from 5 to 8 p.m. at local art galleries:  Jackson Street Gallery, Southern Breeze Gallery and View Gallery.  This month's event will be on September 16.  Details can be found on the Ridgeland Tourism Commission website, www.visitridgeland.org

Friends of the Ridgeland Library may attend the Preview Book Sale on Thursday, September 23 from 4 to 6:30 p.m.  Join the Friends and benefit with the best selection of books. 

Book Sale starts on September 25 and ends September 30 at the Ridgeland Library. 

Denim & Diamonds Ladies Night Out presented by the City of Ridgeland Chamber of Commerce is September 23 at the Jackson Country Club.  Tickets are on sale now at the Chamber office.  Call 601-991-9996 for more information. 

A Firefighters' Ball, hosted by the Madison and Ridgeland Fire Departments, will be held on Saturday, September 25, 8 p.m., at Embassy Suites in Ridgeland.  The ball will benefit the Mississippi Burn Center and the Mississippi Burn Camp, as well as the Ridgeland Firefighters' Auxiliary.  Contact Ridgeland Captain Todd Yelverton at 601-813-4846 for a $20 ticket or purchase at the door.

The Craftsmen's Guild of Mississippi presents EXPOSED on Tuesday, September 28, 7-9 p.m. at the Mississippi Craft Center, 950 Rice Road, Ridgeland.  Meet the 12 craftsmen who disrobed and posed with their crafts for the Expose Yourself to Craft 2011 calendar featuring photography by Josh Hailey Studio.  Tickets may be purchased online at www.mscrafts.org

The Community Homecoming Parade at Ridgeland High School will be Thursday, September 30.  Businesses are encouraged to enter floats in the parade and catch the Ridgeland spirit.  This year's theme is Titan Wide World of Sports.  Call Eddie Joe, Jr. for more information at 601-668-2529.

Fleet Feet Sports offers a Thursday evening run of 5 miles out and back on the Ridgeland Multi-Use Trail.  Meet at Fleet Feet in Trace Station Shopping Center (corner of Hwy 51 and Jackson Street) at 6 p.m. 

Indian Cycle Fitness hosts group bike rides every Thursday at 6 p.m.  Meet at Indian Cycle Fitness located at 677 S. Pear Orchard Road. 

School News

The fall fundraiser for Ann Smith Elementary, "Reading Rally", starts on Friday, September 3.  ASE students will be selling magazine subscriptions for upt to 85% off newstand prices. 

New field turf at Ridgeland High School will be dedicated at 7 p.m. on Friday, September 3 prior to the first home game of the season.  RHS Titans vs. Terry starts at 7:30 p.m.

Ridgeland High School Titans will play a home game against Canton on Friday, September 24 at 7:30 p.m.

Homecoming Week is September 27- October 1.  The Community Homecoming Parade will be on Thursday evening, September 30.  Homecoming is Friday, October 1.  The Titans will play Lanier at 7:30 p.m.

Highland Elementary will host on Outdoor Movie Night on Friday, October 22. 

Community Enrichment Courses will be offered at Holmes Community College including:  Introduction to Adobe Photoshop CS4, September 9 - October 14, 6 - 8 p.m.; Basics of Photography, September 13 - October 18, 6 - 8 p.m. and Facebook 101 & 201, September 13, 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. and September 20, 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m.  To enroll, call 601-605-3370.
