Mayor and Board of Aldermen
City of Ridgeland local government consists of a mayor and a seven-member board of aldermen. Each of the city’s six wards has one alderman and there is one alderman-at-large. These dedicated public servants work with one another and their constituents to fulfill the mission of the City of Ridgeland. In charge of one of the state’s fastest-growing and economically prosperous cities, Ridgeland’s City Government is not only streamlined and efficient but also accessible and flexible.
Department Directors
The City of Ridgeland MS’s day-to-day business is organized within several departments of service to the citizens and businesses of Ridgeland. Each department has a department head that oversees the duties of its staff. Department heads report to the Mayor and the Board of Aldermen.

The Department of Finance and Administration is responsible for all accounting, purchasing, information systems, debt management, utility billing, investments, and administrative functions of the city.
The Human Resources Office is responsible for various personnel activities associated with recruitment, placement, personnel changes, personnel records, answering inquiries, pre-employment processing, employee recognition, and employee benefits. This department is also responsible for the administration and coordination of the Title VI, ADA, and LED programs, and the Human Resources Director serves as the FHA Compliance Officer (FHCO).

The mission of the Ridgeland Fire Department is the protection of the life and property of the citizens, visitors, and workforce of Ridgeland from the adverse effects of fires, medical emergencies, and natural and man-made disasters.

The Ridgeland Police Department exists to serve the community and to partner with the community in providing public safety services that enhance the quality of life.
Public Works

Department Director
The City of Ridgeland Public Works Department maintains streets, water and sanitary sewers, storm drains and ditches, water tanks, and water wells. The department is also charged with monthly water meter readings, city vehicle maintenance, and the operation of a cemetery. The Community Development Division seeks to enhance the quality of life through its four divisions.

Ridgeland Recreation and Parks Department, through a coordinated effort, seeks to enrich the quality of life for the citizens of Ridgeland by offering safe and accessible facilities and a diverse program of activities.
Zoning Board
The Zoning Board is responsible for holding public hearings involving rezoning requests, conditional use permits, and dimensional variances. They make recommendations to the mayor and board of aldermen for property and zoning-related decisions. Members are appointed by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.

Architectural Review Board
The Architectural Review Board is responsible for regulating the exterior appearance of buildings, structures, and improvements proposed for alteration or construction in areas zoned residential (except for R1 and R2, which is handled under the Subdivision Ordinance), commercial, industrial, and public buildings. Members are appointed by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.

Keep Ridgeland Beautiful
Keep Ridgeland Beautiful, an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, recommends to the mayor and board of aldermen programs and projects that would, in the opinion of the affiliate, improve the beauty and general welfare of the City of Ridgeland. The mayor and board of aldermen may request the advice or cooperation of Keep Ridgeland Beautiful for any project or program connected with beautification, cleanliness, or general welfare of the City of Ridgeland.
Keep Ridgeland Beautiful meets in the Public Works Conference Room, located at City Hall on the first Monday of the month at 4:00 p.m. All members are appointed by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.

Contractors Board of Adjustment and Appeals
The Contractors Board of Adjustment and Appeals has the power to hear appeals of the decisions and interpretations of the Building Official and considers variances of the technical code. The Board also approves or disapproves all new applications for mechanical, plumbing, and electrician contractor licenses.
The Contractor’s Board meets quarterly on the third Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the Community Development Conference Room. Meetings are held in January, April, July, and October. All members are approved by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.

Historical Committee
The City of Ridgeland Historical Committee works in conjunction with the Historical Society of Ridgeland, Mississippi for the accomplishment of the mission of the said organization, to identify matters of historic significance, and to bring such matters to the attention of the mayor and board of aldermen.
The Historical Committee meets every other month on the second Thursday of the month at 1 p.m. at City Hall. Meetings are scheduled for January, March, May, July, September, and November. All members are approved by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen.
