Brian Ramsey, Ridgeland’s Alderman of Ward 4, leads with a commitment to “Keeping a Great City Moving Forward”. Ramsey is very proud of Ridgeland’s impressive growth and development and understands the importance of providing effective and innovative leadership to ensure the continuation of the progress that has been made. Now is the time, he believes, for the city leadership to give its attention to the revitalization of the older areas of the city. “I am committed to improving the quality of life in the City of Ridgeland by improving the infrastructure of these older areas, which need to be updated and maintained to today’s standards. We will always be looking for ways to inspire people to rehab properties or update existing ones,” said Ramsey. Through his leadership, significant progress is being made in addressing street and drainage issues throughout Ward 4, as well as utility infrastructure. This is essential if property values are to be maintained and grow as other areas of Ridgeland have.
A fervent supporter of education, Ramsey strongly supported the school bond issue which was vital to bringing Ann E. Smith School up to the quality of other school structures in the area and to providing additional interior spaces for students. Ridgeland High School benefitted as well with new synthetic playing turf and classroom spaces. He doesn’t just preach the value of education, he lives it. Ramsey earned a B.A. degree in Business Administration from Belhaven University. In addition, he has passionately pursued his professional development as Alderman through the educational opportunities offered by the Mississippi Municipal League and the National League of Cities. He has earned his Certified Municipal Official designation from the MML, and his Bronze Level “Leadership Fellow” award from the NLC. In 2010 he graduated from the Madison County Chamber’s Leadership Madison program.
As a member of the Board of Alderman, Ramsey has served on a number of committees including Employee Policy and Contractor Selection. Ramsey was instrumental in collaborating with Mayor Gene McGee and other Aldermen to establish the Ridgeland Alert System, which provides citizens with timely notifications by phone, text or email. He has also supported numerous other public safety and law enforcement initiatives, such as a new communications system, emergency operations situation room, and expanded municipal court.
Ramsey is a staunch advocate for advancing the progress made with economic development in Ridgeland and in his ward as well. “Some of the most active economic growth in Mississippi is now taking place in Ridgeland,” said Ramsey. “It is important for the city to stay at the forefront of this growth, as neighboring communities stand ready to exploit these opportunities if we do not. I support attracting and keeping quality businesses that bring in dollars to our community, provide jobs for our citizens and serve the needs of our residents. Ridgeland has been blessed with a tax base from these businesses that has helped keep our residents’ property taxes low and pay for the building of quality infrastructure and lifestyle amenities.” As a member of the Home Builders’ Association, he continues to work closely with local developers to bring in quality new housing to the area.
Alderman Ramsey maintains a busy schedule of involvement with organizations on the local, state and national levels. He is an active member in the following organizations: The Ridgeland Chamber of Commerce, The Madison County Chamber of Commerce, Zip39, Home Builders Association of Jackson, Madison Business League, Madison County Foundation, Madison-Ridgeland Rotary Club, Mississippi Republican Party, Madison County Republican Women (Associate Member), Mississippi Urban Forest Council, Gideon’s International and Broadmoor Baptist Church. He was elected to serve as the first Director of Professional Development for the Madison County Chamber’s Zip39 young professional group; serves on the Mississippi Municipal League’s Legislative Response Committee; appointed to the National League of Cities’ Finance, Administration and Intergovernmental Relations Committee; and is active in NLC’s First-Tier Suburbs Council.
