Chocktaw Baskets
August 1, 2024
Mississippi Choctaw Basketry by Choctaw members of the Craftsmen Guild of Mississippi: Choctaw
women still weave from the sturdy native swamp cane their changeless colorful styles, both for use and
as a medium of exchange. As recently as the 1930s, Choctaw families would march rural roads
accompanied by a drum beat to exchange piles of baskets. The Choctaw baskets are from the
permanent collection of the Craftsmen Guild of Mississippi.
